Community Outreach - CASA
Bona is an active partner of Advocates for Children, a local CASA agency that has served the 18th judicial district in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties since 1985. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA volunteers) are trained volunteers from the community who speak up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courtroom. Children helped by CASA volunteers include those for whom home placement is being determined in the Dependency and Neglect Court filings. The CASA volunteer helps to ensure that the children are in safe, permanent and thriving environments. CASA Volunteers make independent recommendations to the court that include a child’s placement, school and emotional well-being. The volunteer remains with that child throughout the life of a case. With over 300 active volunteers each year, serving over 800 children annually, they contribute to a total of more than 25,000 volunteer hours to the community.
Advocates for Children also has a program called the Legacy Project which serves adolescent youth who have been in the foster care system by teaching life skills including cooking, health, interview skills, etc.
It costs Advocates for Children $100 every month to provide one child with a CASA volunteer. Find out how you can help!
