In 1894, Bona founder Wilhelm Edner opened a small grocery shop in Malmö, Sweden. In 1910 a completely new product was introduced to the Swedish market -- floor wax. Edner shifted his focus from groceries and five years later added floor polish, mop oil, dry floor cleaner, waxing equipment and other floor care products to his offering.
Ninety years later, Bona brings innovation, performance and the highest industry quality with its suite of products for hardwood floor finishing and care. Bona’s exclusive focus on hardwood floors, paired with concern for health and the environment, enhance the beauty, safety and longevity of floors. With global headquarters in Malmö, Sweden and subsidiaries and distributors in over 50 countries, Bona offers a complete hardwood floor care system, thoroughly tested for quality control, that is proven to be the healthiest, easiest and most effective way to clean and maintain hardwood floors.
Bona’s facilities in Malmo, Sweden; Lindburg, Germany; Pueblo, Colorado and Monroe, North Carolina are one of the few companies in these states to become ISO 14001 certified by the certification body, Bureau Veritas.
ISO 14001 is an environmental management system that gives company management, employees and external stakeholders an effective framework to follow to assure environmental impact is being measured and improved, taking into account legislative requirements. This can include the process for how a product is created, inspections, preventative maintenance, supplies, transportation, recycling and energy efficiency. Certification is acquired and maintained through an interview audit process each year to prove continuous improvement to relevant processes.
Bona’s durable finishes and sealers also protect and care for distinguished floors globally such as Westminster Cathedral, Nike World Headquarters, professional sports arenas and world-class museums.
